HPVM 1.9 contains a high-performance implementation which can utilitize a Myrinet 4.x (5) network, a Giganet (6) network or a SMP's CPU/memory bus.
Also, HPVM 1.9 has a "development installation" where programmers can develop FM-based programs on their uniprocessor desktop by passing FM messages through a "NULL" device. A sending FM process will deposit a FM message in main memory and the receiving FM process will extract this message from main memory. This implementation is similar to the shared memory transport for SMP systems, but FM programs running on uniprocessor development installation won't see the performance that is realized in SMP systems.
