When the HPVM front-end client starts, the user is initially connected to the server in an unauthenticated mode. In general, the unauthenticated mode of operation allows the user to view the status of the cluster but not to submit or kill batch jobs. If the user attempts to use the Submit Job or Kill Job functions, a message is displayed in the text area instructing the user to authenticate himself to the HPVM front-end server to enable the functions.
To authenticate himself, the user selects the Log On option from the Authentication menu. After selecting the Log On option, a dialog box is displayed on the user's screen, prompting the user for a username and password. The user should supply a username/password combination which is valid for the Windows NT domain to which the LSF cluster hosts belong. The server verifies the username/password combination.
