HPVM III: A Production Pentium II Cluster
Transferring the technologies developed by the HPVM project is in
progress
through the construction of a production HPVM machine for the National Computational Science Alliance . This machine
was demonstrated at the Alliance meeting in April 1998. The
configuration of this machine is shown below:
- 256 300 Mhz Pentium II Processors in 128 nodes, 2-way SMP's
- 64 GB of memory, 512MB per node
- 512 GB of disk, 4GB per node
- 160MB/s full duplex Myrinet networking (per node)
- 100 Megabit ethernet
Within the year, we will be building two additional clusters, each two
to four times the size of the initial system. Current plans include a
production 512-processor cluster in which we hope to incorporate the
hardware from multiple PC vendors (e.g. HP, Compaq, etc.) and
networking vendors (Myricom, Tandem, Giganet, etc.). In addition,
this summer we hope to combine this cluster with HPVM II: A Pentium II
Cluster to demonstrate a 300+ processor cluster on a single job.
