Virtual Grids – The VGrADS Execution System

The Virtual Grid runtime system enables applications to acquire appropriate resources and adapt to changing distributed resource environments in pursuit of a wide range of application-level properties (performance, fault tolerance, etc.).  The Virtual Grid runtime system provides a simple interface to a large, complex resource environment, relieving the application of the burden of understanding and managing it.  Application needs and expectations are described in a resource specification language which provide a simple application abstraction for resource configuration and performance.  This abstraction is used in the realized resource configuration and is embodied in an explicit representation (reified resource spec) for the applications to manipulate.  The VGrADS Execution system is part of the VGrADS project led at Rice University.
