In Lecture #2 (8/30/95), there is a correction on transparency page 17. The rate of increase in the 'density of transistors per chip' and 'speed' for logic chips is specified as 2x in 3 years. This is incorrect. The textbook (H&P) specifies on Page 7 that the density per chip (and the device speed, though not the metal wiring speed) increases at about 60% - 80% a year. This means: now 1 yr 2 yrs 3yrs x 1.6x 2.5x 4.0x assuming 60% growth, or x 1.8x 3.2x 5.7x assuming 80% growth. So you can read off the correct figures from above -- either pessimistically as 4x in 3 years; or optimistically as about 3x in 2 years -- which latter view Homework #1, part #4 takes. Jay
